Global peace foundation urge Nigerians to confront drug abuse with empathy, compassion

Global Peace Foundation Nigeria, (GPFN) in collaboration with AMAYA Peace Foundation has spearheaded a community initiative program against illicit drugs addiction in Kaduna state.

This is as the foundations said that until the issue of drug addiction and its negative impacts are comprehensively  addressed through developmental strategies in southern Kaduna and by extension, Nigeria tackling the prevalence of criminal related activities is practically impossible.

Speaking at the one day seminar in Kaduna on Thursday, the Country Director, GPFN Rev. John Joseph Hayab harped on the need for the society to develop an attitude of love and support as panacea to facilitate the rehabilitation and reintegration of those affected by substance abuses in the region.

Hayab also emphasized the need for holistic approaches to address the root causes of addiction, while advocating for enhanced support services, community outreach initiatives, and rehabilitative programs, even as he urged the attendees to confront the issue of drug addiction with empathy and compassion.

“We are here today as peace lovers to unite our voice against illicit drugs in our state and by extension, Nigeria following its dire consequences and its corrosive effects on individuals, families, and communities, and also to advocate for an enhanced support services, community outreach initiatives and rehabilitation programs.

“The need for holistic approaches to address the root causes of addiction can never be overemphasized. Our plea therefore is for attendees to galvanized a renew commitment to combatting drug abuse and fostering a culture of compassion and understanding in Southern Kaduna and her environs.” Hayab said.

In his remarks, a Member of the Board of Trustees, AMAYA Peace Foundation, Mr.  Ishaku Maman, said combating the menace of substance abuse requires a collaborative effort from all and sundry.

Maman disclosed that the critical importance of synergy between community members and security agencies as one of the urgent ways of addressing the pervasive issue of drug addiction to foster peaceful coexistence in Southern Kaduna is of utmost importance.

Speaking also at the event, the Northern Coordinator, GPFN, Sheikh Abdullahi Haliru Maraya said the ideology of One Family Under God as mandate of the Foundation led to the advocacy program, with the aim to get rid of the society of any criminal activities, meanwhile he added that inherent unity amongst all humanity irrespective of diverse backgrounds is very necessary for the growth of every society.
